NOTE: This post is aimed towards my Christian brothers and sisters not secular society.
Why are we Christians so surprised when the rest of society doesn’t understand that marriage is a Biblical idea? We’re the ones who stopped following God’s commands for marriage! We’re the ones who took the earthly symbol of the Church and Christ’s relationship and cheapened it!
If we as Christians are going to have any effect in improving the culture of the societies we live in we must reclaim the family. What does that mean?
We MUST speak out about infidelity!
We MUST speak out about divorce!
We MUST speak out about pornography!
We MUST speak out about premarital sex!
We MUST speak out about having children out of wedlock!
Now, let me be clear. We must speak out about these things IN OUR OWN LIVES and in our own churches. STOP trying to tell everyone else in the world how to live when we as Christians don’t hold ourselves or our Christian brothers and sisters to account on these things.
Of course society looks at us as bigots and hateful when all we do is tell people what they shouldn’t do WHILE WE GO AHEAD AND DO IT OURSELVES!
People use this “don’t judge” line so often we Christians have started to buy it! We are called to hold each other accountable. (Inside the church.) Why do we as Christians continue to walk around not confronting the divorce, sex, and pornography going on in our own lives and that of our Christian friends?
Would not one Apostle confront another when they were wrong? Open up your Bible…it’s there!
If we are going to help our communities and our country we must start with our churches. For far too long we’ve let popular cultural norms creep into our lives. We must draw a line in the sand and remind each other (our Christian brothers and sisters) that we are set apart. That we are to be a light in the darkness.
I for one hope you hold me accountable and help me be a better representation of Christ to our world just as I hope you want that from others around you.
